Soulful Messages – An Excerpt from the Best Selling Book

I am honored to have a piece in the Best Selling collaborative book 365 Soulful Messages: The Right Guidance at the Right Time.  Over 200 writers contributed stories about messages they have received – from messages from the Divine to messages from our hearts, and our bodies and souls, to signs from animals and nature, to messages from the other side.

When I was thinking about what soulful message I would write about, innumerable experiences came to mind.  There had been so many messages, no end of signs and occurrences.  But one important event left such a strong imprint.  It shifted everything.  I’d like to share that story with you here.

The Launch

By Jill Alman Bernstein

Navy aircraft carrier fighter pilots are a breed unto themselves. The danger and thrill of being launched off the carrier deck, the hook catching the plane’s tail upon return. My father was such a pilot in the Korean War. He dared to fly. Flight was in his soul.

The phone rang. My sister, in a thin choked-up voice said, “Daddy is in the ICU. He can’t breathe on his own.”

I flew to his side and prepared. I visualized his soul floating up, all our hands joined, forming a circle of love around him. I envisioned his spirit swirling out of his body, ascending to the heavens.

He breathed his last earthly breath. I heard a bark. Our trusted Labrador bounded toward him. Walking through clouds, they were greeted by a group of men in khaki Navy uniforms – my father’s squadron. They were waiting, so happy to see him. And then they walked, arm in arm, into the light.

Exhausted and sleep deprived, I questioned what I saw.

Several days later, I returned home. I was compelled to read a book that had been sitting on my shelf for years (Soul Survivor) about a boy, James, who was the reincarnation of a WWII fighter pilot. I read so quickly, racing like the engines of a fighter jet readying for launch, something guiding me to hurry to the part where James was playing with his GI Joes, when his parents asked him why he named his little men Billy, Walter, and Leon, and he answered that they were who met him in Heaven.

Heat rushed from my chest. I felt energy vibrations racing up and down my legs. Tears spontaneously flowed. I had no doubt that I had been guided by my father to read the book, and he made sure I read until I got to that part so that I knew what I had seen was true.

I had questioned what I saw, but he showed me and reminded me of the gift I hold. Surrounded by his love, I stepped forward, now undeniably trusting my intuitive vision.
